Karl Goldmark: Ländliche Hochzeit - Symphony in E-Flat, Op. 26 (Rustic Wedding Symphony) Howard Barlow conducting the Columbia Broadcasting Symphony.
Country: US. Released . Howard Barlow Conducting The Columbia Broadcasting Symphony - Popular Overtures And Dances (LP, Mono).
The Columbia Symphony Orchestra was an orchestra formed by Columbia Records strictly for the purpose of making recordings. It provided a vehicle for some of Columbia's better known conductors and recording artists to record using only company resources. There was also the Columbia Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, sometimes called the CBS Symphony Orchestra. This group was formed to perform on CBS Radio broadcasts and also made 78-rpm recordings for Columbia Records during the 1940s. It was frequently conducted by Howard Barlow, who later became the music director of "The Voice of Firestone" radio and television programs.
There was also the Columbia Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, sometimes called the CBS Symphony Orchestra. One of the Columbia Records releases by the CBS Symphony with Barlow conducting was the "Indian Suites" by Edward MacDowell, recorded on May 15, 1939; this recording can be heard on YouTube.
BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 5 BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 6 Studio recordings, 1927 Total duration: 60:52. Felix Weingartner, conductor Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. An unusual feature in comparison with later recordings of the Pastoral Symphony is the small body of strings used. Toscanini’s larger orchestra is, however, preferable in the ‘Merry gathering of the country people’, bringing more exuberance to the Minuet opening, yet a more realistic, harder-toned trio headed by oboe depicting the village band. The rustic dance has more gusto and enjoyment. Weingartner is niftier, lighter. His Trio (tr. 7, 0:49) is incredibly virtuosic for a homely band.
The Minuet in G major is a keyboard piece included in the 1725 Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach. Until 1970 it was attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV Anh. 114), it is now universally attributed to Christian Petzold. The Minuet in G major is found in the 1725 Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach, where it appears with its companion piece, Minuet in G minor, as a pair to be performed da capo. Only a few composers are identified in the notebook. The Minuet in G major and its companion are two of the many anonymous works included. In the 1970s the Minuet in G major was identified as a piece from a harpsichord suite by Dresden organist Christian Petzold. Classical johann bach G major Menuet bwv anna magdalena 115.

Whatever the limitations of Stravinsky's baton technique, no one else on disc conjures the same bustling excitement at the outset of Petrouchka. Overlapping, polyrhythmic textures in Petrouchka and in Le Sacre du Printemps come off with Mozartian lucidity, Mendelssonian lightness, and, well, Stravinsky-esque rhythmic exactitude (notwithstanding a few hesitant entrances). The Sacrificial Dance" is also played very well. I was very pleased with the recording. Still, Stravinsky was aging and although he still did a very good job of conducting the Columbia Symphony Orchestra, it pales compared to the energy of Bernstein and the Philharmonic.
