The Grateful Dead is the debut album of the Grateful Dead. It was released by Warner Bros. Records in March 1967. According to the biographies of both bassist Phil Lesh and drummer Bill Kreutzmann, the band released the album as San Francisco's Grateful Dead. In the land of the night, the ship of the sun is drawn by the grateful dead. They hadn't, and because Garcia worried that it seemed "pretentious", and the band were uneasy about being seen as beholden to any specific philosophy or doctrine, they asked the artist, Stanley Mouse, to stylize the script so that all but the band name were illegible.

In The Dark' was a Grateful Dead album made up of material that the band had been performing live for a number of years. The title references the band's real-life attempt to capture their live sound by recording the basic tracks in a darkened theater with no audience. Unexpectedly, they grabbed their only Top Ten hit ever with 'Touch Of Grey,' which brought the Dead's music under the microscope for a whole new audience of music fans. 7. 'The Grateful Dead'. The debut album from the Dead took shape in only four days

I used to go to Dead shows in the '80s and '90s, a scrappy little teenager in New Jersey, standing all the way at the back of the stadium 'cause that was the only ticket I could afford. I had no thought I could even be a million miles from the members of the Grateful Dead, let alone making music that would be involved with one of their shows. It's the biggest surprise of my musical life, really. Casal was given the charge to create the Interludes by Jordan Kreutzmann, the son of Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann, who was creating visual content for the shows and also filmed the concerts. Kreutzmann told Casal he needed several hours of music, for which he grabbed CRB and Black Crowes keyboardist Adam MacDougall (another Lesh & Friends alumnus), Dan Horne (Beachwood Sparks, Jonathan Wilson) and drummer Mark Levy of The Congress.

Grateful Dead is an album by rock band the Grateful Dead. Released in October 1971 on Warner Bros. Records, it is their second live double album. Playing in the Band" received a good amount of airplay, and became one of the Dead's most played songs in concert (a studio version was released the following year on rhythm guitarist Bob Weir's solo album Ace).

The Dead's first album sounds completely different than anything else they would do for the next 30+ years. So its an interesting album, not one to start with though if you are new to them. IMO "Cold Rain and Snow" is one of the dead's best songs. It sucks that the Dead really cut a lot of there early songs out of there concerts in the mid '70s to the end of there career.
